Groups and Customised Programmes

CIE organises both integrated and customised group programmes throughout the year. These programmes always receive excellent feedback from the students and the tour leaders. For large groups, we use University College, Lady Margaret Hall and the Oxford Union. The following examples should give you a flavour of what we do.

HOP Programme (Japan)
30th August – 12th September

One of the finest examples of a CIE Oxford programme is HOP: the Hosei Oxford Programme. The programme was designed by Professor Yuji Suzuki, dean of the department of Global Politics at Hosei University. Hosei is one of the oldest private universities in Japan and renowned for its Law department. Prof. Suzuki, formerly assistant professor at Johns Hopkins University in the USA, appreciates the value of studying at Oxford. He designed the Oxford University programme and appointed CIE as the local collaborator.

CIE provides academic and EFL teachers and also selects the students' companions. Companions are supervisors of academic work and also local coordinators for Hosei students. They live with the students at University College, Oxford. They give advice to the students on their academic projects and provide information about university and city life.

With this immersion course, the Hosei students acquire a knowledge of British culture and international politics and at the same time improve their English skills. HOP is compulsory for all first-year students of Global Politics, and Hosei University gives all successful participants university credit. Last summer, 203 students were awarded credit.

Technische Berufsschule (Switzerland)
30th September – 13th October

In September, CIE welcomed 35 students from Switzerland and provided them with an interesting programme of social activities and English lessons. After being welcomed at the Linton Lodge hotel with a splendid buffet supper, the students had their English lessons in the Oxford Union, which is opposite CIE in St. Michael’s street. The social activities included ice skating, bowling, and a trip to London. The fortnight’s course was concluded with a farewell ceremony at the Union, during which certificates of achievement were presented.

Chuo Suginami H.S (Japan)
15th July – 6th August

Chuo Suginami High School is one of our regular groups, having come every summer for more than 10 years. Thirty students from Japan enjoyed their group English lessons along with other international students in a delightful university setting at Lady Margaret Hall, where semi-private lessons were also held in the afternoons. One of features of this programme is the splendid party organized by the students, for the host families and CIE staff.

Oxford Experience (France)
9th April – 13th April

In the spring of 2007, we welcomed 20 young students from France. We have teachers who have considerable experience of teaching young students, and the atmosphere in all the classes was always a very happy one. The students were taught in small groups, and the lessons were supplemented by visits to places of interest in Oxford. This programme finished with a party in the hall of a nearby church. The students left Oxford with some very happy memories.
