Hi, my name's Max. I'm the Accommodation Assistant at CIE. Today, I'm basically just going to explain how we choose our families for the students.
What we look for is nice and caring families. Students come from far away, and they're children who need to be loved here as well, so we want some nice and caring families who will treat the students like children and not just like a tenant. So we need some nice families.
I actually do visits myself and when I go and visit what we actually look for is... well, the house should be nice, but the main thing is what the families are like--the kinds of activities they do in the house, how loving and caring they are, and whether they will converse with the students, because the main aspect is to improve their English. So we need people who will actually talk to the children, take them out, do activities with them.
We have a system how we match families and students. We use preferences; we have student preferences and family preferences. For example, some students may be allergic to pets, so we have to make sure the family they're set with have no pets. And some families actually want older children, or females, or males. So we set our preferences, and that's how we match our families. |
